Beethoven’s signature

What is Personal Artistic Signature?

All artists- musicians, painters, dancers, sculptors, and authors are solitary in their development. They may or may not have mentors or teachers.

Regardless, an artist develops a personal signature when they deeply comprehend their individual approach to their art and continue to develop it- or struggle with it.

We see this historically with musicians who develop an approach unlike like their peers and stand out as singular artists. Thelonius Monk, Jimi Hendrix, and Frederick Chopin are amongst the many who stood out in their generation as singular artists.

Artistic signature does not grow by copying. It develops in any artist by understanding the past, and melding the past with a remolding of new ideas in the present.

My own musical improvisation is a remolding of the past into a contemporary genre. I am influenced by the many generations of musical expression in the West: Baroque. Classical, Romantic. Ragtime, Swing, Bop, Contemporary 20th century and Rock.
