What is Avant Improvisation?

Avant-improvisation is improvising pop songs, standards, and classical melodies in an atonal-dissonant style.

There is great potential in avant-pop, avant American songbook, and avant-classical.

I covered “Paparazzi” by Lady Gaga in an atonal-dissonant style. This is a newer approach to improvisation. I referenced the melody line, kept the rhythm, and created an avant-pop cover.

The Beatles also have great potential for avant-pop covers. I kept the melody line in “Yesterday” but the underlying chords are for the most part not tonal.

Atonal-dissonant covers of known songs and compositions have great potential for improvisers.
